Director’s Report
Convention report: Will know by Aug. about funding trails next season. FEMA funds available for public lands & private with 25 yr easement. GPS units in groomers future possibility and might be able to make units an expanse. There have been 19 deaths this season. Memberships will end on June 30th – recent renewals won’t be entered until April. A PR person was hired to counter recent anti publication and he seems to have had a positive affect giving the reporter a new perspective. Same law firm is making these cases against the DNR on hopes of a technicality.
Stouber Lake sled access pushed ahead by the county. The 40ft/headlight barrier rule is under review and the AWSC hopes to make it 10ft. AWSC and DNR hope that the redirection of State gaming funds in the Governor’s budget was a mistake. Early (Deer) Hunts are to be voted on in mid-April. Our county didn’t have one last year. They could delay marking trails until February. Watch CRP rules change for something that might affect us. There were 157,084 trail passes sold. No “dealer’s” portal. Larry Erickson suggests to always have access to a tracked unit.
Please update SNARS weekly. All 72 counties open for 6 days. Supplemental Funds do carry over so there is a sum available for tapping. Couple fatal groomer accidents. Law suit in process against groomer after being hit by sled. Forest County had a fatal groomer-sled accident. This year $7,224 was raised for KAOS (14-18 yr old participants). World Vintage Museum is looking for (club, etc.) patch donations.
Trail and Grooming Report
Trail were open for 40 days (all zones even). Mike doesn’t remember the when the last time was. The Driftbusters resolved an issue with a landowner over a sled passing to close to their chicken coup. Winneconne trails remain unchanged – still plowed bare with a 7am-10pm restriction thru the city so most take the waterway.
